Hi. My name is Alex and I’m the recently initiated marketing
and business development dude at Whale House Studios. My responsibilities
include developing the brand, facilitating communications with prospective
players and the press alike, coordinating events, crafting the business model,
and infringing on Ryan’s territory of poking around in everyone else’s stuff. There’s
a lot to be done but it’s a whole lot of fun.
Why did I join the team? The group’s affinity for wordplay
was certainly a factor. To paraphrase Sir Mix-a-Lot, “My anaconda don’t want none
unless you got puns, hun.” Also, as a marketing senior at Drexel University
pursuing a certificate in brand management, I know my role at Whale House is a
great way to round out my educational experience. And really, there are few
fields cooler to work in then video games.
It definitely beats selling paper shredders (which I know all too well).
Most of all however, I lobbied for the chance to work with
Whale House because I believe in Gygan Reign and the team behind it. As a
marketer, I am trained primarily to pinpoint what exactly in a product provides
value, and after a few weeks of becoming acquainted with Gygan Reign, I see
potential for a game that players will enjoy. Heck, I’ve already gotten a kick
out of the builds we already have, and though there is still so much to be done
to improve and iterate, the path drawing mechanic and sheer scale of both
strategy and story have emerged as key kick-ass components. I look forward to
both playing and promoting the finished product.
Anyway, that’s what I do and why I’m here. In addition to
droning on about synergy and other self-parodying business memes, I like to
compose music in both the classical and contemporary traditions. Maybe I’ll do
a bit of that at Whale House as well. Stay tuned to find out.
Regards,
Alexander Olivares
